CC-CEDICT Released – I am moving

Monday, September 15th, 2008 | News

The good news is the CC-CEDICT project released a new version of the dictionary recently, but the bad news is I am in the process of moving so it will be a little while before 小词典 Desktop gets updated.

I hope to be able to do a new release by the end of September, but it depends on how fast my computer ships to my new house. For reference I am moving from the United States to Australia so the move is a bit more complicated than normal.

The new version of CC-CEDIT is up to 76,586 entries! I can’t wait to get it into 小词典 desktop.

In a slightly related note, the Android version of 小词典 is coming along nicely and I should have a working version ready about the time the HTC Dream phone is released (the first android phone). I sure hope I can get one in Australia!

I’ll post when the new version of the desktop app is finished.

I love it, but it would be nice to be able to translate English or Pinyin to the Chinese character. Is that possible in the future?

Hi Tom, That might be something for a future addition, but it’s a bit more complicated because of the way the CC-CEDICT file is made. But I’ll look into it – I would like to have that ability as well.

Any news on the Android version?

May 31, 2009

I had to keep the old sdk around for a talk I was giving, and the talk is over so I’ve update my environment to the new 1.5 version. One slight problem is that there aren’t any cupcake phones in Australia (at least that I have heard of) so I won’t be able to test the application even when I think I’ve got it working in the simulator. I know it’s selfish, but I made this app for myself, and if I can’t use it then the rush to complete it is moved down a bit. If I had an android cupcake phone today, it would already be done.

I am working on it more than the iphone app now, but I can’t give a good estimate on when it will be ready. I’ve also started looking at windows mobile 6. It really boils down to which type of phone I can get my hands on.
